Released in 1973 on Philadelphia Records, the album was a huge commercial success at the time. It reached number 1 in the "Black Albums" charts and produced two hit singles, "For the Love of Money" and "Put Your Hands Together". "Ship Ahoy" is conceived as a themed album, built around the title track and featuring socially relevant tracks and love songs under a cover that is remarkable even for its serious subject matter. "Ship Ahoy" was the best-selling R&B album in the Billboard year-end charts for 1974. Now finally available again as a reissue. We can only warmly recommend it!
