Jonny Benavidez - My Echo, Shadow And Me (LP)

In cooperation with Timmion Records, Daptone Records is pleased to release the debut album of the "soulful Chicano Brother" Jonny Benavidez! 

A native of San Diego (via El Paso, TX), Jonny's desire to sing was influenced by his grandfather John Lorenzo Guzman, who spent some time harmonizing with groups in El Paso as a teenager in the early sixties, most notably Sonny Powell & The Night Dreamers. When he was 13, Jonny got a record player and a box full of R&B, doo-wop and soul 45s, which he studied obsessively, using the harmonies and melodies within to cultivate his own unique voice. After a chance encounter with the legendary Dimas Garza, Jonny's career began to take off and soon he was singing alongside stars like Eugene Pitt and Archie Bell and attracting the interest of Timmion Records. With the support of Cold Diamond & Mink (Bobby Oroza, Pratt & Moody), two incredibly successful singles were released and plans were made for a full album, culminating in 11 original songs penned by Benavidez.
